Cut Steel Necklace - Light Cream Lace
This necklace is comprised of an antique Cut Steel Buckle, that has been polished back to a high shine and used as a focal piece on light cream lace. The lace and clasp are new, the Cut Steel is antique. The Cut Steel slides freely the lace, which allows the wearer to wear it in front, or on the side. This piece would look lovely for a bride, or with a cream dress.
Cut Steel was produced during the end of the eighteenth century (1700's), through the end of the nineteen century (1800's). Later pieces often had a top plate that was attached in entirety to the bottom plate. Where as with earlier pieces (Late 1700's - Mid-Victorian), each piece of cut steel is individually riveted (you can see each rivet on the back). Cut steel in candle light, or low light conditions, reflects light better than diamonds.
